As the School of Fine Art, Craft, and Photography (FACP) enters its final term in its current form, we take a moment to honour and celebrate the vibrant creative community that defines its identity in this pivotal moment. As We Are, Here We Are brings together 50 staff from across our Canterbury and Farnham campuses, presenting a vibrant collection of works that reflect the diverse practices, disciplines, and perspectives within our School.
At the heart of this exhibition is a recognition of the fundamental role of creative practice – not just as a mode of artistic production, but as the foundation upon which learning, collaboration, and innovation are built. The exhibition acknowledges the rich and diverse community of artists, makers, thinkers, writers, and researchers – academic and technical staff alike – who form the community of practice on which FACP has been established. It is from this shared knowledge, expertise, and creative exchange that innovative projects and outcomes have emerged, shaping both the school and the wider creative industries.
Spanning Fine Art, Craft, Photography, and Visual Communication, this exhibition is a testament to the interwoven creative ecologies that have flourished across two campuses, 92 miles apart. It acknowledges the dialogues and relationships that have emerged, and the collective commitment to shared creative practices that continues to bind us together.
Hosted at the James Hockey Gallery, this exhibition serves as a space to gather, reflect, and celebrate the unique artistic languages, research, and methodologies that define our community. Corresponding practices, parallel processes of making and play, and dialogical interactions unfold within this space, revealing intersections between the personal and the collective, the conceptual and the material, the local and the global.
More than just a staff exhibition, As We Are, Here We Are marks a critical juncture – a moment of transition, recognition, and renewal. It is an invitation to pause, acknowledge, and celebrate what has been built, and to carry forward the ethos of collaboration, innovation, and care that has defined the school and its staff – both technical and academic.
At a time of change and transformation, this exhibition affirms that we who share, we who create, remain in community – not just as individuals, but as part of a collective practice that extends beyond institutional walls.
